James. Do you still want me to get some rules up on creating an army? If so let me know and I will see what I can do.

I remember reading something somewhere on creating an army. I only remember a few details.

1. the size of the army that can be built depends on the size of your kingdom.

2. An army is a constant drain on your BP. If you make it an active army (for whatever reason) it is a weekly cost. If it is a reserve army, it s a Monthly cost.

Like I said, I will look around for that army info I have somewhere if you want. Just let me know.

I'd like to see the rules if you can find them.

In the city building section of the 3.5 DMG it talks about 1% of the population being full time guards or soldiers and 5% of the population being in the militia - a ready reserve force. We can use these rules to determine the size of the army and militia to add some flavor/detail to our kingdom. If we are not going to have mass combat situations with armies fighting armies that's probably good enough.

In the spirit of how the kingdom is run, we should try ans stay with using BP as much as possible. This is a good starting point. You may be able to spend more BP for better equipment and training. I can find that as well, but that is beyond the scope of what you can afford at the moment

Consumption: Consumption lists how many
Build Points an army consumes each week,
representing the cost to feed, hydrate, arm, train,
care for, and pay the soldiers. An army’s
consumption is equal to its CR divided by 2
(minimum of 1; consumption can be further
modified by tactics and resources). You must pay
the army’s consumption value at the start of each
week it is active. If the army is not active, but is in reserve,
The consumption cost becomes a monthly cost instead of weekly.

RAISING AN ARMY: You can raise an army in any city that has a Barracks or Garrison. A Barracks can raise an army up to size Medium; raising a larger army requires a Garrison. Each Barracks or Garrison can raise only one army per turn. As a "kingdom action," raising an army replaces constructing a building, so you can only raise as many armies in a turn as you are allowed for your kingdom size.

Raising an army requires a Loyalty check with a penalty equal to twice the CR of the army you want to raise. If the check succeeds, you spend BP equal to twice the army's CR and the army is created. If the check fails, you spend BP equal to intended army's CR but the army is not raised. However, if you attempt to raise an army from the same Barracks or Garrison on your next kingdom turn, you gain a +4 bonus to your Loyalty check.

MAINTAINING AN ARMY: Armies cost consumption each WEEK that they are kept in the field, or each MONTH that they are kept in reserve. An army can always be created in one place and moved to another location to be placed in reserve there. It is considered to be in the field while moving its base of operations and must pay that consumption for that week, but if it reaches its destination in less than a week, it can be treated as being in reserve and must pay consumption only once more for the remainder of the month. To be kept in reserve, an army must be housed in one of the following buildings, each of which can host an army of the following size.

Watchtower: One Small or smaller army.

Barracks: One Medium or smaller army.

Castle: One Large or smaller army.

Garrison: One Huge or smaller army.

A Gargantuan or Colossal army cannot be kept in reserve, it must remain in the field.

Army Size------Number of Soldiers------Army’s CR
Fine ----------------1-----------------CR of individual creatures –8
Diminutive-----------10----------------CR of individual creatures –6
Tiny-----------------25----------------CR of individual creatures –4
Small----------------50----------------CR of individual creatures –2
Medium-------------100----------------CR of individual creatures
Large---------------200----------------CR of individual creatures +2
Huge---------------500----------------CR of individual creatures +4

Just an FYI. My stat increase for 4th level would improve my modifier for the kingdom building. If I advanced before we started the kingdom, our rolls would have been one point higher.
