Kyras Cobb Empty Kyras Cobb

Somewhat of a loner most of his life, Kyras Cobb joined the border guard when he was 15, lying about his age to get in. That is where he learned to track and to fight. He keeps his friends close, and his enemies closer, though if he can “whittle ‘em down a bit,” he will do it. He is someone who can be depended on in a fight. He tends to act like a "lummox" who thinks he is the smartest person in the kingdoms, but occasional hints of intelligence peek through this façade, giving the impression that he acts dumber than he is. Kyras is the man who will ask the questions that no one else wants to. Sometimes, he says more than he should. Even though he is a macho character, he has shown a intense fear of undead, particularly ghasts and ghouls. Despite his sometimes uncaring attitude towards others, he does let his softer side show on occasion. For example, he used to give a portion of his income to his mother, and he wants to build a home for her in the new kingdom. He will send for her when he can.

Kyras is 5’8, about 150 lbs., with blue eyes and brown hair. He has scars on his back from an undead attack when he was with the border guard.

He is not accustomed to large cities and civilization, but rather small towns and outposts. His method of living is modest, if not frugal. He prefers to sleep outdoors, unless it is in bad weather.

OOC: It is background stuff. If asked (around the campfire), my character may tell the story of his fear of ghouls and ghasts. My character will just be a little hesitant to go into caves or crypts. If confronted with an undead, he will not hesitate to dispatch it. I think he will always fear them, and this will lead to undead being my second favored enemy. My first is evil humans (bandits and brigands).

Kyras Cobb Empty Kyras Cobb story continued

Post  Wakko Tue Apr 26, 2011 4:37 pm

OOC: My character tells this story around a campfire at night.

I was serving under Capt. Malcolm Reynolds, with the 57th Overlanders. We were Rostalan border guards, keeping out the bandits and such. We were known as the “browncloaks” on account of our camouflaged brown cloaks we wore. Besides me and a bunch of other grunts, there were six other regulars. The second in command was a warrior woman named Zoe. She was shacking up with the wagon master, Wash. There was rogue named Kaylee, who could find just about anything that was hidden. We had a doctor, Simon, who was a druid on account of us being in the wilderness. He used herbs and such as much as magic. He had sister, River, who was a sorceress. But I think she could have been anything she wanted. Boy, what a looker. The unit also had a priest, an old codger we called Book.

About a year back, we was exploring this area that had some caves in it. It was getting close to dusk, but Capt. Reynolds wanted to finish and get back to town. See, he had this little woman named Inara, and he saw her every time he could, if you know what I mean. Anyways, he sends me, Josh, and Tim into this cave. I’m bringing up the rear, when these two things come leaping out. They hit Josh and Tim, and they froze where they stood. Now, there is being brave, and being foolish. I ain’t no fool. Josh and Tim were done for, and I ran to get reinforcements. Both of them things come running after me, lopping along with tongues hanging out. They smelt like a meat locker when all the ice was melt. I had just cleared the cave entrance when one of them struck me from behind. It was like being dunked in icy water. My body just froze, and I went down. Fortunately, my body tumbled down the hill and I landed face up. I could still see, I just couldn’t move. I saw Capt. Reynolds and Book running past me. Book says something about Dark see the Light, and I heard this awful wail. Next thing I know, I was in Doc Simon’s tent. He put a blanket around me and said the cold would let up in a few minutes. Then he turned me over and dressed my wounds. Don’t know what happened to Josh and Tim, but I heard tell they didn’t make it, and the captain ordered the bodies burned so they would not come back.

Within a few months, I was transferred out and assigned escort duty to Oleg’s trading post. And here I am. I decided to muster out and join up with the group assigned to clean out the bandits. I guess I don’t got nowhere else to go.

What is another good favored enemy to take? At this point, we have not faced a huge variety of monsters from which to pick. I was thinking maybe giants or magical beasts. After my encounter with the Undead, that would also be a choice (because I hate them, but I still fear them). What do you think?

FYI: I rolled another 10 for my hit points. I had Dee witness it just in case. She did not witness the last one, but I did roll a 10. Honest.

Maybe you can lend some to the fighter lol.

You really have the best one so far (human).

Unread makes the most sense. When is your 3rd favored enemy.

In Seabrook all day for a branch opening.
