Well, that's typical

Both of you would know that placing the sword into the sack is fine and will not damage anything.

You would also remember that the sword is not fully awakened yet. The best and fastest way to open it is to defeat powerful fey with briar clsoe by. Being in the extradementional space may hinder the sword from properly awakening in those situations.

You can carry the sword in the sack, but it may not awaken if it is in the sack when a powerful fey is defeated.

Is there a reason we want it to be awakened?

I do not have the books on me, but the Nerid mentioned that fully awakened it was a vorpal sword. It also does not register as evil. The group is not required to awaken it if they would rather not.

The group can make spellcraft checks to see if it can figure out some of its other missing properties.

I would like the +5 Mithril Breastplate, the +5 Amulet of Natural Armor, and the +3 Ring of Protection, giving back my +2 ring.

And my +2 Amulet of Natural Protection.
